Gary L. Seckman

Gary Lee Seckman, 58, of Adrian, Mich., died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 6,, 1945, in McElroy District, W.Va., to Clyde and Retha (Keys) Seckman.  Gary was a boiler operator for Delphi Manufacturing for 29 years.

Gary is survived by two sons, Scott Seckman and Steven Seckman, both of Adrian; stepson, Robert Randolph of Grand Rapids, Mich; grandchildren, Courtney Reney and Peyton Kay Seckman, Alexis Elaine Cramer, Salone Christine Cramer and Gavin Wayne Cleland; three brothers, Robert Dean Seckman, Pat Seckman and Bill Seckman, all of West Virginia; and one sister, Weewee Tennant of West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, W.Va, with the Rev. Earl Fletcher officiating.  Burial will be in Wilbur Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, Mich.  Visitation will also be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Furbee Funeral Home.

 


 

Eugene S. Keys

SalemEugene S. Keys, 61, of Salem died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at United Hospital Center following an extended illness.

He was born September 30, 1942, at Wilbur, Tyler County, the son of the late Ina Britton.

Mr. Keys was never married.  He had two great-caring friends, Pat and Bill Price of Salem, who gave him their personal care for three years.

He was graduated from Doddridge County High School, Class of 1962, after which he went to work at Harvey's Glass Factory in Salem and worked at several other glass factories for many years.

Mr. Keys was a Christian and was baptized on August 10, 1999, by Pastor David L. Carole, Sr.

Friends may call at the Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem, Saturday from 6-9 p.p., where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Rev. Paul Flanigan and Rev. Virgil Richards will preside.  Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery on Route 18 North of West Union.


 

Opal Virginia Weekley

Weekley, Opal V., 94, of East Liverpool, Ohio, formerly of Wilbur, W.Va., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 in the East Liverpool City Hospital.

She was born in Tyler County, a daughter of the late John C. and Della Long Yoho.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Wilbur Chapel Church and later attended the North Side Community Church, East Liverpool.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Weekley Sr. in 1962; a son, Harold Weekley Jr.; and two brothers.

She is survived by two sons, Roy A. (Rosa) Weekley of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Bradley E. (Shirley) Weekley of Tecumseh, Mich.; two daughters, Betty J. Postlewait of Pine Grove and Anna L. Griffin of Wellsville, Ohio; two brothers, Kesley Waggle and Everett Waggle of Mansfield, Ohio; two sisters, Bertha Arnett of New Martinsville, W.Va. and Catherine Kearns of Aliquippa, Pa.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma from 6-9 p.m. Sunday where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Earl Fletcher officiating.  Interment in Wilbur Cemetery, Wilbur, W.Va.


 

Marie M. Keys Mercer

Mercer, Marie M. Keys, 86, of East Liverpool, Ohio, died at 10:25 a.m. July 1, 2003, at East Liverpool City Hospital following a one-month illness.

Born in Wilbur, W.Va., April 20, 1917, daughter of the late Luther and Addie Ferguson Keys, she was a member of the Fairview Church in Wilbur.

A homemaker, she lived most of her life in the tri-state area, moving to East Liverpool from Wilbur.

Her husband, Herbert W. Mercer, whom she married Aug. 14, 1946, died Aug. 20, 1978.  A son, Marshall Keys, and a grandson, Brent Keys, also preceded her in death; along with a sister, Meriam Stoneking, and an infant sister, Leatha Belle Keys.

Four grandchildren, Herb Keys of Pittsburgh, Pa., Danny Keys of Sistersville, Luke Keys of Jacksonville, N.C., and Brian Keys of Columbia, Tenn., survive.  Also surviving is a sister, Mabel "Edie" Maxwell of Middlebourne.  There are two great-grandchildren.  Jessica and Ashley Keys.

Services were held at Furbee Funeral Home July 5, Rev. Earl Fletcher of the church officiating.

Interment in Wilbur Cemetery in Wilbur.

Perry Junior Haught

Haught, Perry Junior, 60, of Wilbur, departed this life May 3, 2003, in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg

He was born February 4, 1943, at Wilbur, the son of the late Delbert and Susan Haught.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ermel Haught and Denver Haught and a sister, Mabel Ilene Haught.

He is survived by a son, Perry Haught, Jr., and his wife Sherry of Wilbur; sisters, Opal Wilcox of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Virginia Hickman of Ashtabula, Ohio, Wanda Keys of West Union, Hazel Friend of Akron, Ohio, and Melba Ash of Alvy; brothers, Claude Haught of Alma, Thomas Haught of Chester, W.Va., James Haught of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Ray Haught of Wilbur; a grandson, Shawn of Wilbur and his companion Patty Smith of Wilbur.

Services were held May 5 at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, with Rev. Earl Fletcher officiating.  Interment in Beechwood Cemetery, Alma.


Meriam L. "Stubby" Stoneking

Stoneking, Meriam L. "Stubby", 82 of Elkings, W.Va., formerly of Weirton, died March 31, 2003, at her son's residence.  She was born September 6, 1920, in Doddridge County, daughter of the late Luther and Addie Ferguson Keys.  Meriam was preceded in death by her husband Clairmont Stoneking, in 1987.

Meriam was a homemaker and a Charter member of the Kings Creek Union Chapel in Weirton.

She is survived by her sons, Bruce Stoneking and his wife Sandy, of Elkins, and Benny Stoneking and Arlie of Weirton; two sisters, Marie Mercer of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Edie Maxwell and her husband Ed, of Middlebourne.  Meriam also has seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Kings Creek Union Chapel, North 12th Street and Kings Creek Road, Weirton. Rev. William Hammond officiating.  Meriam will lie in state today at the Mt. Mariah Baptist Church in Alma from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Committal services will follow at the Beechwood Cemetery in Alma where Rev. Earl Fletcher will officiate.

Dewayne James

Dewayne "Bud" James, 59 of Wilbur, W.Va., died Feb. 1, 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Dulcia; four sons, Todd James, Chad James, Chase Bartrug and Cody James, all of Wilbur; one daughter, Danielle Bartrug of Wilbur; two brothers, Carl James and Lonnie James, both of Greenwood, W.Va.; five sisters, Joan Evans, Linda Campbell, Naomi Cunningham, Barbara Reed and Joyce Hollis; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wilbur Cemetery, Wilbur.   Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro.

 


V. Eleanor Earnheart

V. Eleanor Earnheart, 91, of Ohio Valley Health Care, formerly of Columbus, Ohio died Jan. 29, 2002, at Ohio Valley Health Care.

She was born Jan. 20, 1911 in Wilbur, W.VA., a daughter of the late Robert V. and Grace M. Hall Ireland.  She retired from Borden Co.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Becon Chapter 593, Daughters of the American Revolution Pride of Columbus Chapter 204 and the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Charles Ash and his wife, Joanne of Parkersburg; one daughter, Ruth Virginia Reynolds and her husband, Shirley of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Luella McConnell of Oregon, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil E. Ash; second husband, Henery H. Shriner; third husband, Dean Earnheart; and two sisters, Clella Boice and Agnes Godwin.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Rutherford Funeral Home of Columbus.  Rev. Tim Wall Jr. will officiate.  Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home of Pike Street, south Parkersburg and noon-2 p.m. Friday at Rutherford Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Union Cemetery of Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons or the Alzheimers Association.


Otis S. Grove

Otis S. Grove 88, of Friendly, W.Va. died March 27, 2002, at his residence.

He was born April 8, 1913, in Wilbur, W.Va., a son of the late Oris D. and Martha Shingleton Grove.  He was retired from Ormet Corp. and was a former auto mechanic.  He was a member of Bens Run Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Zelma D. Summers Grove, two sons, Gary L. Grove of Friendly and James O. Grove of Bens Run; one daughter, Madonna A. McPeek Smith of St. Marys; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Iva Shingleton Grove; one brother Olin Grove; and one half sister, Carmen Stewart.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Home, Sistersville. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Sistersville.  Calling hours are from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.


Verna Opal Ash

Middlebourne -  Verna Opal "Granny" Ash 93, of Alma, W.Va. passed away June 1, 2002, at the New Martinsville Health Care Center.

She was born April 26, 1909, on Mudlick Run, Tyler County, a daughter of the late James Franklin and Mary Francis Seders Elifritz.

Granny Ash, as she was known by so many, attended the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Alma and visited many other area churches.  She was a member of the Alma Senior Citizens.

Granny spent her life's work at something she loved and did well.  She was a "Gift Giver".

She made cakes for all occasions, made holiday candies and crafted many other handmade gifts.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by five brothers, Howard, Wade, Boyd, Hugh and Chester; two sisters, Bricie and Bessie; three stepbrothers, Fred George and Erice Ferrebee; one stepsister, Ella Ferrebee Doak; and one daughter, Joanne Ash Seckman.

She is survived by one son, James and his wife Thelma, one daughter, Bessie and her husband Harold Warner; 12 grandchildren,; two stepgrandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, the Rev. Louise Baker and the Rev. Donald Thomas officiating.  Interment in Masonic Cemetery, West Union. Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.


Nora Mabel Ash Seckman

Seckman, Nora Mabel Ash, 97, formerly of Petroplus Towers, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at the Bishop H. Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling, WV.  She was born July 2, 1904, in Tyler County, WV, daughter of the late George L. and Ota Mae Jones Ash.

Mrs Seckman was a member of the Elm Grove United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Arlie C. Seckman; her 2nd husband, Buy V. Seckman in 1982; a daughter, Betty Dudash; three brothers, Homer, Jess and Thurman Ash.

Surviving are two daughters, Jean Solak of Palatka, Florida and Cleta Shook of Wheeling; two sons, Lewis W. Seckman and his wife Helen of Cambridge, Ohio and Jack A. Seckman and his wife Jeanne of Cross Junction, Virginia; a brother, Frank Ash of Weston, WV; seventeen grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, with the Reverend Bryan D. Carpenter officiating.  Interment in Wilbur Cemetery.

 


Densel W. McKinney

East Liverpool, OH-- Densel W. McKinney, 78, of Midway Lane died at 11:53 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was admitted Nov. 11.  He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Wilbur, Tyler County, W.Va., a son of the late Harmon and Hattie McKinney.  He lived in various locations in the Tyler County area.  Growing up, he worked in his schools, as a farmhand and helped his family by carrying the mail while his father was ill with pneumonia, dropping out of high school to do this.  He graduated in 1942 and was soon drafted into the U.S. Army, entering the service at Ft. Hayes in Columbus.  He was assigned to the 120th Infantry Regiment of the 30th Infantry Division.  He trained in Florida and Indiana before shipping overseas to prepare for the Normandy invasion.  Landing at Omaha Beach three days after D-Day, he fought with his unit through the hedgerows in the campaigns of Normandy and Northern France.  He later served as a train guard on supply trains headed for the front, and was assigned to a Special Services unit in Paris shortly before the end of the war.  He returned to the United States in late 1945 as a Tec-5 and was mustered out of the Army at Ft. Meade, Maryland in 1946.  Mr. McKinney earned the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was a recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon, and he held the Expert Infantryman's Badge.

Following World War II, Mr. McKinney attended the Clarksburg (W.Va.) Business College and settled in East Liverpool, where be began a career at Crucible Steel in Midland.  He retired there in 1982.

Mr. McKinney was active in veterans' affairs throughout his life in East Liverpool.  He was a past commander and life member of American Legion Post 374, past 10th District Commander of the American Legion, past Chef D'Guerre of Voiture 273 of the Forty and Eight: a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 66 and Chapter 47 of the Disabled American Veterans.

As a member of the Veterans City Council in the 1960's, he was active in the drive to establish the monument to East Liverpool residents killed in our wars which stands in front of City Hall.  He also participated in the more recent dedication of the monument to the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger on Challenger Drive.

He was active as a member of the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and Post 374's Color and Honor guards.  He marched in several parades each year and provided a final honor to many members of his generation of veterans, and of younger veterans, as a member of the burial group.

He was honorary chairman of the East Liverpool Veterans Day activities this fall.

He also was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Riddle Masonic Lodge 315, Elks Lodge 258 and the East Liverpool Lions Club.

His first wife Ruth A. Milne McKinney, whom he married Nov. 4, 1950, died July 29, 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Galloway Wilson Deem McKinney, whom he married August 10, 1995; A daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary Kay) Harrold of East Liverpool; a son, Michael W. McKinney of East Liverpool; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Allen ("Sid") Neverly of New Cumberland and Mrs. Jeff (Marsha) Watson of East Liverpool; three stepsons, James Reed of Portland, Ore., Dave Wilson of Robertsdale, Ala., and Jim Wilson of Summerdale, Ala; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Mercer of Calcutta, Mrs. Pauline Greaver of West Union, W.Va., Mrs. Donald (Anna Lea) Maine of New Martinsville, W.Va., and Mrs. Kenneth (Eva Pearl) Pierpoint of Tiltonsville, Ohio; a brother, Harmon W. McKinney Jr. and his wife, Jenny, of Petersburg, W.Va; five grandchildren and 10 stepgrandchildren.

The Rev. Dr. H. Gene Toot, pastor emeritus of Trinity Presbyterian Church, will conduct services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.  The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will accord full military honors.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.  Elks services will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by Masonic services at 7 and American Legion services at 7:30.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group or to the Trinity Church Easter Pageant.

 


Bert Birchfield

Bert Birchfield, age, 65, of Titusville, Florida, formerly of Dwale, died Wednesday, July 12, in Florida.  Born on December 31, 1934, in Wilbur, West Virginia, he was the son of the late James and Ethel Grand Birchfield.  He was a retired carpenter superintendent, and Army veteran of Korean conflict, and a member of the Brush Arbor Baptist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Jean Birchfield.  Other survivors include one son, James K. Birchfield of San Diego, California; two daughters, Bonnie J. Freni of Winter Springs, Florida, Sandra Rosche of Titusville, Florida; two brothers, Danni K. Birchfield of Lavergne, Tennessee, Phillip Birchfield of Cheyenne, Wyoming; one sister, Anne Daniels of Montgomery, Alabama; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 15, at noon, at the Brush Arbor Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida, with pastor Jerry Creel officiating.  Cremation was under the direction of Union Park Memorial Chapel.(Information courtesy of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Martin.)                                                                   (July 2000)

 


Grace M. Williamson

West Union--Grace M. Williamson, 86, of the Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilition Center of Salem, formerly of Wilbur, died at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the nursing facility following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 9, 1913, a daughter of the late Eben E. and Frona Jones Duty.

Her husband, Edgar J. Williamson, preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Reva Rowland, Wilbur; one son, Gail D. Williamson, Wilbur; two sisters, Auda Gatrell, Middlebourne, and Carolyn Hurst, Newton Falls, Ohio; one brother, Elwood Duty, Sevierville, Tenn.; two grand-children, Deborah Menges, Elkhart, Ind., and Rachelle Tudor, Morgantown; one great-grandchild, Rainelle Menges, Elkhart, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lorena and Blanche Gatrell.

Mrs. Williamson was a member of the West Union Church of Christ.  She was an avid homemaker and quilter.


Mildred Gregg

Mildred Gregg, 91, of Josephs Mills died Nov. 21, 1999, at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville.

She was born in Wilbur, W.Va., a daughter of the late William W. and Sylvia Smith Weekley.  She was a homemaker and attended Wilbur Chapel, Wilbur.

Survivors include one sister, Lillian Nuzum of Georgetown, Pa; three nephews, Carl Ash of Friendly, John Nuzum of New Manchester and Michael Weekley of Akron; and eight nieces, Phyllis J. Slate of Fairmont, Bonnie Slinkosky and Judy Finney, both of Akron, Mary Weekley of Alexandria, Va., Janie Cook of Michigan, Susan Weekley of Arizona, Joyce Nuzum of Georgetown, Pa., and Sandra Sue Clark of Alma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Gregg in 1965; three brothers, Dale Weekley, Donald Weekley and an infant brother; and two sisters, Edith Ash and Violet Gregg.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, the Rev. Louise Baker officiating.  Burial in Wilbur Cemetery, Wilbur.  Visitation is from 7-9 p.m. today.

 


Franklin L. Mercer

EAST LIVERPOOL -- Franklin Laverne Mercer, 74, of Highland Drive died at 11:51 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 1997, at City Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Wilbur, W.Va., July 28, 1922, a son of the late Lawrence and Fancy Weekley Mercer.

A resident of East Liverpool since 1946, he was employed 33 years as a guide setter in the No. 1 Finishing Mill at the former Crucible Steel Co. before retirement.  He served with the U.S. Army in the 30th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II.  He participated in five major campaigns and was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.  He was a member of the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6327 in Sistersville, W. Va., 30th Infantry Division Association, National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni, American Legion Post 374, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 47 and the Appaliachian Folk Music Club.  He was an avid Bluegrass musician.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth McKinney Mercer, whom he married April 24, 1943; a daughter, Carol Sullivan of Florida; two sons, Jeff Mercer and Donald Mercer of East Liverpool; two sisters, Anita Rogers of Weirton and Delores Rossi of Steubenville; a brother, Roger Mercer of Yuma, Ariz.; three granddaughters and two stepgranddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Darquenne; and three brothers.

Pastor Robert Wilcher of the church will conduct services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home.  Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wilbur Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and at the Furbee Funeral Home in Alma, W.Va., from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

 


Marshall Keys

Columbia, TN -- Herbert Marshall Keys, 58, a resident of West Eighth Street, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 1996, in Maury Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday in the chapel of Williams Columbia Funeral Home with the Rev. Telford Tharp officiating.  Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

He was a native of Wilbur, W.Va., the son of Marie Keys Mercer of  East Liverpool, Ohio, and the stepson of the late Herbert Wardell Mercer.  He was retired from ICI of America in Mobile, Ala., and was a sales representative for Parks Motor Sales.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include four sons, Herbert Keys of Pittsburg, Pa., Danny Keys of Mansfield, Texas, Luke Keys of Jacksonville, N.C., and Brian Keys of Columbia; two granddaughters, Jessica Keys and Ashley Keys.  He is also survived by Donna Rowland Keys.

He was preceded in death by one son, Brent Matthew Keys in 1988.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Kinzer, Jackie Rowland, Jeffrey Rowland, Derrick Kinzer, Jimmie Rowland, and David Arbuckle.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Parks Motor Sales.

 


Glenver O. Weekley

ALMA - Glenver O. "Glen" Weekley, 81, of Wilbur, died Dec. 28, 1994 at Clarksburg Continuous Care Center, Clarksburg, after an extended illness.

He was born in Camp, Doddridge County, a son of the late Albert and Almira Spencer Weekley.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a retired farmer.  He was a member of Fairview Church, Wilbur.

Surviving are his wife, Artie Smith Weekley; on son, Lawrence Weekley of Middlebourne; one brother, Carl Weekley of Deep Valley; and two grandsons, Daniel Weekley and Brian Weekley, both of Middlebourne.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Services 11 a.m. Saturday, Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, the Rev. Earl Fletcher officiating.  Burial Wilbur Cemetery.

Visitation 2-9 p.m. today, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Doak, 80 of Taylor Avenue, North Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Wilbur, died Monday Dec. 21, 1992 at Lake Mead Hospital, Las Vegas.  She was born in McKim, Tyler County, a daughter of the late Lon and Etta Stewart Hill.  She was a retired postmaster of Wilbur, and was a member of the Wilbur Senior Citizens and Wilbur Chapel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery J. Doak in 1979; three brothers; one sister; and grandson.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Dotson and Mrs. E. B. (Peggy) Tucker, both of North Las Vegas; two half-brothers, Cecil Dawson of Charlestown and Emory Dawson of Parkersburg; two half sisters, Mabel Haught of Wilbur and June Goff of Webster Springs; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne, with Rev. Earl Fletcher officiating.  Interment followed in the Northview Mausoleum, New Martinsville.

 


Zetta F. Ash

Zetta F. Ash, 59, of Alma, died Saturday, May 23, 1992 at the Americare Health Care Center, Salem.

She was born in Tyler County, a daughter of the late James E. and Elsie Mercer Jenkins.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Surviving are four sons, George Ash and Samuel Ash, both of Deep Valley, Ellis Ash of Smithfield, and Mathew Ash of Wilbur; four daughters, Frances Hurst of El Paso, Texas, Lynn Ferguson and Rith Shepherd, both of Joseph's Mills, and Dorothy George of St. Marys; two brothers, Carl Jenkins of New Cumberland, and Leason Jenkins of Weirton; one sister, Alice Haught of Chester; and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26 at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, with the Rev. Louise Baker officiating.  Interment followed in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Joseph's Mills.

 


Susan M. Griffin

Susan M. Griffin, 88, of Alma, died Sunday, June 2, 1991 at her residence.  She was born at Wilbur, a daughter of the late Silas and Rhoda Davis McGeorge.  She was a lifelong homemaker, and had been a member of the Shirley United Methodist Church, the McElroy Grange at Shirley, the National Grange, and the Shirley Homemakers Club.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Amidy Griffin, in 1960; two sons, Paul Griffin and Brantley Griffin; and two grandchildren.  Surviving are two sons, Jimmy Griffin of Alma and Bobby Griffin of Shirley; eight daughters, Mrs. Berklely (Geneva) Smith of Shirley, Mrs. James (Betty) Pratt of Wilbur, Mrs. Edward (Nancy) Pratt of Weirton, Mrs. Charles (Lucille) Bailey of Barlow, Ohio, Mrs. Robert (Wilma) Smith of Fredricktown, Ohio, Mrs. Donald (Mamie Pearl) More of Painesville, Ohio, Mrs. Jack (Ruth Ann) Cunningham of Gambier, Ohio, and Mrs. Ralph (Sandy) Underwood Jr. of Alma; 41 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, with the Rev. Louise Baker officiating.  Interment in the Wilbur Cemetery, Wilbur.


Renna Fox

WEST UNION - Renna Fox, 96, Route 1, West Union, Central Station Community, died Feb. 10, 1991 at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born at Wilbur, Tyler County, a daughter of the late Jonathan and Meedie Mercer.  She was a homemaker and attended Rock Run Wesleyan Methodist Church.

She is survived by one brother, Glenn Mercer of Parkersburg; four grandsons, James Pierce of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Jonathan George Pierce of Groveport, Ohio, Malcolm Pierce of Taylor, S.C., and Alfred Lee Cottrill of Central Station; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank P. Fox, in 1976; one daughter, Ruth Cottrill; two brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Rock Run Wesleyan Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harry Wright officiating.  Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Tyler County.

Friends may call at the Spurgeon Funeral Home, West Union, from 6-0 p.m. Tuesday, and at the church one hour prior to services Wednesday.

 


Gladys Haymond

ALMA -  Gladys Haymond, 91, HCR74 Box 18, Wilbur, died Saturday at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

She was the daughter of Arthur T. and Mary (should have read Mae) Grove Weekley.  She was a member of the Wilbur Chapel Church.

She is survived by three sisters, Clara Haught, Hanoverton, Ohio, Maude Stanley, Lisbon, Ohio, and Mabel Legerton, Lakeland, Fla.; and one grandson, David M. Haymond, Santa Barbara, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband William M. Haymond, one son, Richard Haymond, two brothers and one sister.

Glen L. Hickman

Glen L. Hickman, 74, of route 2, Pennsboro, Deep Valley Community, WV, died Sunday morning in the Americare-Salem Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after an extended illness.

He was born in Central Station in Doddridge County, WV, a son of the late Silas T. and Zelphia Davis Hickman.  He had retired in 1972 after 22 years with the Union Carbide Corp. in Ashtabula, Ohio.  He also was a farmer and member of Arnolds Creek Christian Church, Deep Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia N. Haught Hickman, one daughter, Mrs. Merle (Eva Mae) Gill of Ashtabula, Ohio, one sister, Beulah Moore of Akron, Ohio, two brothers, Arthur Hickman of Chardon, Ohio, and Frances C. Hickman of Berea, WV, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Spurgeon Funeral Home in West Union, WV, with the Rev, Lemoyne Horner officiating.  Burial was in the Wilbur Cemetery, Tyler County, WV.

Hattie McKinney

Wilbur - Hattie McKinney, 87, of Wilbur, died Friday evening, in the Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville.

She was born August 23, 1898, in Tyler County, a daughter of the late Silas T. and Rhoda Davis McGeorge.

She is survived by two sons, Denzil McKinney of East Liverpool, Ohio and Harmon McKinney, Jr., of Petersburg, W.Va.; four daughters, Ruth Mercer of East Liverpool; Pauline Greaver of West Union; Anna Lea Maine of Porters Falls, W.Va.; Eva Pearl Pierpoint of Tiltonsville, Ohio; a sister, Susie Griffin, of Wilbur; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon McKinney, in 1980.  She was a charter member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, Wilbur, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.

Friends will be received at the Furbee Funeral Home at Alma, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.  The service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Wilbur Chapel United Methodist Church, Wilbur, Rev. Louise Baker and Rev. Craig Blankenship will be officiating.

Interment will be in the Wilbur Cemetery.  The body will lie in state at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m.                       (1986)


Edgar John Williamson

West Union-- Edgar John Williamson, 77 of Pennsboro, formerly of Wilbur, died Thursday morning, November 7, 1985 in Camden-Clark Hospital, Parkersburg.

He was born in Doddridge County, a son of the late George Alexander and Laura Marie Ash Williamson.  He was a member of the West Union Church of Christ and was a retired construction worker.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Mae Duty Williamson; one daughter, Reva Rowland; one son, Gail Duane Williamson, both of Wilbur, W.Va.; two sisters, Beula Riggs of Washington, W.Va., and Mae Bond of Baltimore, Md.; two grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Spurgeon Funeral Home, West Union, with Evangelist E. Russell King officiating.  Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery, Route 18 North, West Union.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. today.

 


Violet M. Gregg

Violet M. Gregg, 79, of Joseph's Mills, died in Wetzel County Hospital in New Martinsville Thursday morning.

She was born in Wilbur, Tyler County, daughter of the late W. W. and Sylvia Smith Weekley.  She was a member of Wilbur Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, David of Joseph's Mills; a daughter, Sue Clark of Alma, two brothers, Dale Weekley of Akron, Ohio, and Donald Weekley of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Mildred Gregg of Joseph's Mills and Lillian Nuzum of Georgetown, PA; three grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleryl W. Gregg.

The funeral will be a 2 p.m. Saturday at Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, the Rev. Louise Baker officiating, with burial in Wilbur Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.                                             (Died May 16, 1985)

 


Isaac Dawson

Isaac "Ike" Dawson, 84, of Rt. 1, Pennsboro, formerly of Hebron, died Thursday at the residence of his daughter.  He was born in Ritchie County.  He was involved in the oil and gas production industry, was a farmer and a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2381 of St. Marys.

Surviving are three sons, Cecil Dawson of Charles Town, Emory Dawson of Parkersburg and Edward Dawson of Philippi; five daughters, Mrs. Mable Haught of Wilbur, Mrs. June Goff of Webster Springs, Mrs. Mary Hinds of Waveland, MS, Mrs. Alice Sloneker of Canton, OH, and Mrs. Betty Riggs of Pennsboro; a sister, Mrs. Golda Hamilton of Pennsboro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Etta Stewart Hill Dawson; his second wife, Nora Jewell Dawson; a son, four brothers and three sisters.

Services were held at 2pm Sunday at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro.  Burial was in the Pine Grove Cemetery near Hebron.                                                     (March 1983)
 


 

Elsie M. Myer

Elsie M. Myer, 69, of Wilbur, died Thursday evening at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.

She was a retired school teacher with 32 years of service and was a member of the Wilbur United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Walter M. Myer; a son, Jerry L. Myer, and a daughter, Judy Bagley, both of Wilbur; a brother, George W. Britton Jr. of St. Marys; a sister, Katy Mierop of Elyria, OH; 11grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral was held Monday at the Wilbur Chapel Church, with Evang. John Tenny officiating.  Burial was in the Wilbur Cemetery.                                      (Died March 4, 1982)


Harmon McKinney, Sr.

Alma - Harmon McKinney, Sr., 83, of Wilbur, died Sunday, July 27, at Wetzel County Hospital, New Martinsville.

He was born July 6, 1897, in Doddridge County, a son of the late William and Lenora Spencer McKinney.

Surviving are his wife, Hattie McGeorge McKinney; two sons, Denzil McKinney, East Liverpool, Ohio, Harmon McKinney Jr., Wellsville, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Mercer, East Liverpool, Ohio, Mrs. Pauline Greaver, West Union, Mrs. Anna Lea Maine, Porter's Falls, Mrs. Eva Pearl Pierpoint, Tiltonsville, Ohio; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

Mr. McKinney was a retired mail carrier and teamster.  He was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, where he had been Sunday school superintendent and teacher for many years.  He was a news correspondent for the West Union Record and the Tyler County Star News.                                               (1980)

 


 

Mrs. Luther Keys

Addie Keys, 84 of Wilbur, Tyler County, died Sunday, Oct. 12 in United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, following an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 17, 1896, at Wilbur, a daughter of the late B. S. and Vilena Davis Ferguson.  On Nov. 4, 1916, she married Luther C. Keys, who preceded her in death Dec. 7, 1955.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Edith Cottrill, Wilbur, Mrs. Marie Mercer, East Liverpool, Ohio, Mrs. Clairmont (Meriam) Stoneking, Weirton; one sister, Mrs. Clayce Booher, Wilbur; one brother, Eugene Ferguson, Midland, Pa.; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

One infant daughter, one brother and one sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. Keys was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church of Wilbur and a charter member of M.A.B.A. Review 46, Middlebourne.                                                  (1980)


 

Herbert W. Mercer

Herbert W. Mercer, 64, of 836 Michigan Ave. died Sunday at 11:45 a.m. in City Hospital following a one-month illness.

He was born June 25, 1914, in Wilbur, W. Va., a son ofLawrence Mercer and Fancie Weekley Mercer.

Mr. Mercer moved to Midland in 1941 and began working for the Crucible Divisions of Colt Industries at Midland, where he was retired Dec. 1, 1976.  He moved to East Liverpool in 1952.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Mercer served with the 54th infantry battalion in the 10th armored division in the European theater.

He was a member of United Steel Workers Local 1212, American Legion Post 48 of Middlebourne, W.Va, and the United Methodist Church at Wilbur.

Survivors include his widow, Marie M. Keys Mercer, to whom he was married Aug. 14, 1946; a stepson, Marshall Keys of Mount Pleasant, Tenn.; two sisters, Mrs. Luther (Anita) Rogers of Weirton and Mrs. James (Delores) Rossi of Steubenville; two brothers, Franklin Laverne Mercer of East Liverpool and Roger N. Mercer of Weirton, and three step-grandwons and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday at  ) (sic) p.m. from the Wilbur United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Louise Baker officiating.  Burial will follow in the Wilbur Cemetery.

Friends may call toinght at the Dawson Funeral Home and Tuesday afternoon and night at the Furbee Funeral Home in Alma, W.Va.

Lucy Davis

Mrs. Lucy Davis, 90, of Greenwood, died Monday morning at the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg.

She was born in Tyler County, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ann Bradford George.  She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church at Wilbur.

She is survived by two sons, Denver of East Liverpool, OH., and Orval of Pennsboro; two daughters, Mrs. Madeline Williams of Greenwood and Mrs Ester Ferrebee of West Union; two brothers, Thomas L. of Beaver, Pa., and Oris of Massillon, OH.; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Pitts of East Liverpool and Mrs Edith Fitzpatric of Salem, OH.; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Davis; three sisters and four brothers.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Wilbur Chapel, Wilbur, with Rev. Louise Baker officiating.  Burial was in the Wilbur Cemetery.                                (December 1978)

 


Anna Underwood

Alva, W.Va. -- Augusta Anna Underwood, 92, of Fairmont, W.Va., formerly of Wilbur, W.Va., died Tuesday in Morgantown Nursing Center

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hansen Underwood in 1963.

Friends received at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma where services were held at 2 p.m. Friday.  Interment in Shirley Cemetery, Shirley, W.Va.                    (Probably August 1978)

     


Rada Wilfong

Mrs. Rada Wilfong, 78, of Greenwood, Doddridge County, died at the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg Thursday afternoon.

She was born in Wilbur, Tyler County, a daughter of the late W. E. (Cap) and Sarah Duckworth Doak.  She and her husband formerly owned the Little Ritz at Greenwood for many years.

She is survived by a brother, Avery Doak of Wilbur; and two nieces, Mrs. Patricia Dotson and Mrs. Peggy Jo Tucker of Las Vegas, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. D. (Bill) Wilfong; and by three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Rogers Funeral Home in Pennsboro, with the Rev. John Tenney officiating.  Entombment was in the Northview Mausoleum, Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.                            (March 1978)


William M. Haymond

ALMA - William M. Haymond, 81, of Wilbur, died Friday morning in the Wetzel County Hospital at New Martinsville, following a lengthy illness.

He was born at Mountain the son of the late William M., and Alice Beckett Haymond.  He was retired from Union Carbide.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Weekley Haymond; one son, Richard R. Haymond of Wilbur, and one grandson.  He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Friends will be received at the Furbee Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held there at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Donzel Wease officiating and burial in the Wilbur Cemetery.                               ( August 1977)

 


Kersey Doak

Kersey Doak, 84, of Wilbur, died Wednesday, May 25, in Wetzel County Hospital.

He was born at Wilbur, August 7, 1892, a son of the late William E. and Sarah Duckworth Doak.

Surviving are his widow, Maxie Doak; one brother, Avery Doak, Wilbur; one sister, Mrs. Rada Wilfong, Greenwood, two nieces, Mrs. Patricia Dotson and Mrs. Peggy Tucker.  Two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Doak co-owned and operated the Doak and Pierson General Store at Wilbur for 56 years, and just recently retired.  He was postmaster at Wilbur from 1919-1962, a veteran of World War I, a continuous 50-year member of the American Legion Post 48 at Middlebourne and a Protestant.

Funeral services were held Sat., May 28, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at Alma with Rev. Donzel Wease officiating.  Interment was in the Beechwood Cemetery.                        1977)

William B. Underwood

William Blaine Underwood, 79, of Wilbur, Tyler County, died Tuesday morning at his home.  He was born Jan. 1, 1892, at Wilbur, a son of the late Taylor and Alice Gallager Underwood.  He was a farmer.. 

Surviving are his widow, Laura Seckman Underwood; one son, Robert of Lancaster; one daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Birklein of Sistersville; one sister, Elizabeth Fay Underwood of East Bank, W.Va.; and one grandson. .He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.  Friends received at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, where services will be held Friday, January 22, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Smearman officiating.  Interment will be in the Beechwood Cemetery, Alma.                    (1971)


 

Kenneth Cottrill

Kenneth A. Cottrill, 59, a resident of Wilbur, W.Va., passed away at his home at 6:05 p.m., Wed., February 4.

He was born Dec. 22, 1910, in Doddridge County, a son of the late Charles and Agnes Smith Corrtill.

In 1945, he married Mabel E. Keys, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kendra, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Ora (Bertha) Montgomery of West Union, Mrs. Charles (Lenora) Goddard and Mrs. Clifford (Ruth) Cochran, both of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Willis of St. Petersburg, Florida; three brothers, Smith of Dayton, Oh., Jacob C. of Pennsboro, and Charles D. Jr., of West Union, and an uncle, J. Corbitt Smith of West Union.

One brother, Wayne, preceded him in death.

Mr. Cottrill was an active member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board of trustees and was also a trustee of the church parsonage.

He was a member of Bricklayers Union No. 6, Parkersburg, the Tyler County Farm Bureau and was a former field deputy assessor for Tyler County.  He was a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were conducted last Saturday at 2 p.m., from the Wilbur Chapel Church.                             (1970)

 


Cleryl W. Gregg    

Cleryl W. Gregg, 65, of Josephs Mills, W.Va., died Thursday morning, January 8, at West Virginia University Medical Center, Morgantown.  He was born Oct. 21, 1904, at Josephs Mills, son of Bert and Margaret Hill Gregg.  He was employed as a teacher in Tyler County schools for 35 years, also owned and operated a farm.  Surviving are his widow, Violet Weekley Gregg; one son, David C. Gregg of New Martinsville; one daughter, Mrs. Duane (Sandra Sue) Clark of Alma; two grandsons, and one aunt.  He was preceded in death by one brother.  Friends were received at the Furbee Funeral Home, Alma, W.Va., where services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 11.  Interment in Wilbur Cemetery, Wilbur, W.Va.                                               (1970)


 

Luther Clay Keys

Luther Clay Keys, 63-year-old president of the Tyler County Court was killed in a railroad crossing mishap at Ellenboro.

State Trooper J. H. Parsons said that the light truck was struck by a 16-car Baltimore and Ohio Railroad express train at a private road crossing leading to the site of a stock sale at Lamberton.

The New York-to-St. Louis train carried wreckage of the truck for 1,600 feet along the tracks. Lamberton is just east of this little Ritchie County community.

Keys was born May 6, 1892, a son of Engle and Anna L. Keffer Deys.  In 1916, he married Addie Ferguson, who survives with three daughters, Mrs. Marie Mercer, of East Liverpool, O.; Mrs. Meriam Stoneking, of Weirton, and Mrs. Mabel Edith Cottrill, of Camp; two brothers, C. C. Keys, of Clarksburg, and Oscar Keys, of West Bridgewater, Pa., and one sister, Mrs. Ona Bertholy, of Sandusky, O. There are four grandchildren

Mr. Keys had lived in the Wilbur community for 35 years and was serving this second term as a county commissioner of Tyler County.  He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Wilbur and of the Fairview EUB Church for 40 years where he had served as the Sunday School superintendent for 20 years.  He was a farmer and a livestock broker and was manager of the Ohio Valley Livestock Marketing Association, a co-op.  Mr. Keys was a past president of the Tyler County Farm Bureau.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec 10 at 1 p.m. at the Fairview church at Wilbur with the Rev. E. E. Roush officiating.  Burial was in the Wilbur cemetery.  The Casto funeral home of West Union was in charge of arrangements.           (December 7,  1955)

John Wilbur Grimm

J. W. Grimm, 88, of Middlebourne, youngest man ever elected to an office in Tyler County, died on Sunday in Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, following a short illness.  Grimm, who served a term as Tyler County assessor and later served as sheriff also was the builder of the old Borland Springs hotel beyond Murphytown.  He was elected assessor in 1888 at the age of 22, thus gaining the distinction of the county's youngest office holder.

He was born in Lenardsville, PA, September 22, 1866, a son of the late H. G. and Malissa Lough Grimm.  His family moved to Tyler County when he was one year old.  Grimm was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of Knights Templar.  He was the holder of a 50 year Masonic Pin.

Grimm taught six years in Tyler County schools.  He had attended Fairmont Normal, now Fairmont State College.  In 1889 he operated a store and secured a post office at Wilbur, WV, a community named after him, his middle name being Wilbur.

Grimm, a trustee and member of the building committee  of the Middlebourne EUB Church, helped build two EUB Churches.  He was also active in church work at Borland Springs.  In 1905 he promoted the Peters Creek Cal Company, becoming secretary of the firm.  He also promoted the Indian Creek Oil and Gas Company.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriett Spies Grimm at home; one son, Frank Chandis Grimm, retired lieutenant of Parkersburg Fire Department and one daughter, Mrs. W. H. Bills of Akron, Ohio.  One son, Morris and one sister, Mallissa preceded him in death.                                                                                                                (February 25, 1955)


 

William Weekley

Willaim Weekley, aged citizen of West Union, passed away at his home there on Monday of this week, aged 80 years.  The deceased was well known to the citizens of the upper section of this county, having resided in the Wilbur section a number of years ago.  He was well known to a number of the older citizens of this town where he visited during the past summer.

Ther body was brought to the Fairview church near Wilbur on Wednesday afternoon where funeral services were held.  Following the service at the church, burial was made in the Wilbur cemetery.                                                                                                           (From front page of the Tyler Star News April 20, 1933)


Arthur Tillman Weekley

Centerville district and Tyler county suffered the loss of one of their best citizens Wednesday night, July15 in the passing of Tillman Weekley, which took place at this home on Wilbur ridge after a lingering illness.  Besides the other illness of Mr. Weekley he has been affected with an eye affliction which had left him totally blind.

He was born in Centerville district and was a son of the late Zane and Susan Vansickle Weekley.  His family was one of the old families of this section of Tyler county and had been prominent in the affairs of the county for many years.  All his life had been spent in the Wilbur section.

He was married as a young man to Miss May (Mae) Grove, a member of another old Tyler county family.  To this union of Mr. and Mrs. Weekley was born nine children, six of whom survive, as follows:  Mrs. William Haymond, Howard and Mabel Weekley, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Earl Keys, Wilbur, and Harold and Clara Weekley at home. He is also survived by the following brother and sisters; William Weekley, Wilbur, Mrs. T. U. Grove,  Mrs. Lura Bonner, and Mrs. Ethel Riggs, Josephs Mills, and Mrs. Stella Sook (Suck), Salem, W. Va.

Funeral services were held at the Wilbur United Brethern Church of which the deceased had been a member for many years, Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. F. G. Radabaugh, minister in charge of the Wilbur work.  A large number of relatives and friends gathered on the occasion to show the respect in which their friend and neighbor was held in the community.  Burial was made in the Wilbur Cemetery following the funeral services.                  (July 15, 1931)
